Set in an enchanting bay between Capo Maiolo and Punta del Vescovado, Spotorno is a pleasant bathing resort also suited, thanks to its mild climate, for winter climatic stays. The historic nucleus preserves the original layout of the typical Ligurian seaside village developing along the coast. At one time the economy of the village was mainly based on maritime trade as well as on the production of mortar. Bearing witness to that period, still today you can clearly see the old kilns evoking the town’s longstanding tradition. Along the streets of the place, you can admire five sundials on the façades of the houses and the Santa Annunziata parish church. The poet Camillo Sbarbaro spent his childhood at Spotorno, describing in numerous poems its marvellous nature and the serenity that it gave him. For those who love sport Spotorno affords opportunities for numerous activities like trekking along the many panoramic paths, paragliding and dives among the fabulous seabeds. ( More Less )
