From the 1800s the beauty of these places has used its alluring charm on the protagonists of the Grand Tour; poets and painters, escaping the gloomy cold of the North paved the way to a modern, international tourism which in turn gave its name to the "Riviera" , identifying it with the french Costa Azzurra and the outer coastline of western Liguria.
