IMPERIA - Riviera dei FIori

From the 1800s the beauty of these places has used its alluring charm on the protagonists of the Grand Tour; poets and painters, escaping the gloomy cold of the North paved the way to a modern, international tourism which in turn gave its name to the "Riviera" , identifying it with the french Costa Azzurra and the outer coastline of western Liguria.
An ancient territory which transpires history from its archaeological finds, from the pre-history period of the caves of Balzi Rossi to the roman theatre of Ventimiglia and the uncountable little medieval villages preserved to this day.
Between the olive grove and vineyard plantation belts which descend towards the coast, time takes on another meaning, amongst ancient oil mills, country restaurants, farm holiday places and widespread hotels.
A few kilometres from the sea, behind the hills are the hidden unspoilt valleys where you can see the historic villages with their ancient stone houses hanging on to the mountain rock,cobbled alleys, bell towers atop ruined castles. Among which the Val Nervia and Valle Argentina hold three classifications of the Orange Flag of Touring Club.
