Hotel in Stellanello

Stellanello lies in the upper basin of the Merula, immersed fanwise among large olive groves. It is a typical Ligurian settlement with scattered nucleuses, green and silent. Its origins are very remote; the first documents present the village as a fee of the Del Carretto marquises in the 12th century and subsequently of the Dorias. From 1305 Stellanello had its own statutes and was governed with a system of five consuls, one per parish church elected by the people and endowed with ample powers. Precisely because of this old subdivision, today in the coat of arms of the village there is a five-point star. Included in the imperial fees, it was annexed to the Kingdom of Sardinia in 1735 and subsequently experienced the provisional governments consequent on the French Revolution and subsequent incorporation in the Napoleonic empire. Near the small cemetery there are the imposing walls of the old castle built by the Clavesanas (between the 12th and 13th centuries).
