Stellanello

Stellanello lies in the upper basin of the Merula, immersed amidst vast olive groves. It is a typical village of Liguria, peaceful and green.Early records present the village as a fief initially belonging to the Marquis Del Carretto in the 12th century and then in the mid 13th century to the Doria. From 1305 Stellanello had its own statutes and was governed with a system of five powerful consuls, one for each elected parish, and this is why the coat of arms of the village includes a five pointed star. As it was part of the imperial fiefs it was annexed to the Kingdom of Sardinia in 1735.

In this village we can find the parish church of San Vincenzo, baroque form with a wealth of marble altars inside. Nearby, not far from the small cemetary, are the imposing walls of the ancient castle built by the Clavesana (between 12th and 13th century).
