Airole is a small district in the hinterland Val Roia on the banks of the river Roia comprising 458 inhabitants on the western outskirts of the urban sprawl of Ventimiglia in the province of Imperia. It is about 10 kms from the coast and about 55 kms from Imperia, the chief town.
The area next to the Mount Abelio- including the districts of Airole, Dolceacqua, Rocchetta Nervina and the Italian-French border. has been proposed to the European Union Commission as Site of European Union Interest by the "Rete Natura 2000". Among the geological characteristics of the site is the prevelance of limestone, sandstone and marble. in the wildlife field the unusual presence of chamois has been confirmed- in a mediteranean type environment- while the gentian ligurian flora species includes: the blue bottle, the powdery primrose, orchids and vast areas of red junipers
The Museum of the culture of Olive Oil
The shrine of Our Lady of Grace, this shrine is situated a few kilometres from the village of Airole on a bluff surrounded by olive groves.
The parish church of Airole, Saint Filippo and Saint Giacomo church. The parish of Airole was extended and re-worked over and over until its actual baroque style in the years 1757-1759. Divided into three aisles it holds the refined frescoes by XX century painters Carlo and Luigi Morgari and an 1837 organ by Carlo Giuliani

At the end of May the " Marcia Internazionale del Val Roia" along the ancient salt ways is organised; the path is 15 kms long passing from the passage of Fanghetto to Airole and Breil-sur-Roya and vice-versa.
What's more ,yearly, in the month of August, there is the "Vespa Friend's" gathering organised by the "Vespa Club Airole" getting owners of this celebrated motorbike of Piaggio together in the village.
